In 1838 the railway arrived at Bletchley and became an important junction for the South Midlands. The town's history became paramount in the Second World War when Bletchley Park played an important role, although not known at the time, as the codebreaking centre during the war. In modern times Bletchley has a new role as a city suburb to Milton Keynes.
