Maritime Display

This is a display from Leighton Buzzard Model Boat Club which features many different models of both naval and commercial vessels.

The Leighton Buzzard Model Boat Club was established in 1982 as a small group of enthusiasts in the town. The aim of the club was to bring together those interested in the many aspects of model boating, and this remains true today.

In the early days members sailed their models on the lakes at Stockgrove Park and Tiddenfoot. Unfortunately these lakes were never ideal venues for sailing, so the club moved its activities to the lake at Bletchley Park after the Trust opened the park to the public. The club now maintains a maritime display of models in one of the park buildings. The lake at Bletchley Park is the usual venue for our organised club sailing and events.
The club started to exhibit at the annual Wings and Wheels Model Spectacular at North Weald Airfield, Essex in the late 80’s and took over organising the model boat section in the early 90’s. The show, usually in the last weekend of June, attracts several clubs and over 100 models, this is always a popular attraction with the public.
Our members build and sail all types of models, including merchant ships, tugs, warships, yachts, fast electric, fun boats, and also static models. Propulsion is by electric motor, steam engine or wind powered, no IC engines are allowed on any waters used by the club.
